Condoms: classic, thin, delay and XL online

What are condoms?

Condoms are thin sheaths worn on an erect penis to create a physical barrier during intercourse. They are the most widely used contraceptive method in the world and the only one, along with the female condom, that also protects against sexually transmitted infections.

Also known as condom or prophylactics, they are mostly made of natural latex, an elastic, thin, and durable material that conforms to the shape of the penis. For those with allergies, there are latex-free condoms made of polyisoprene or polyurethane, also referred to as hypoallergenic condoms: latex-free prophylactics maintain the same safety characteristics but with a slightly different feel. The condom remains the simplest and most effective health measure for safe sex, and each package displays an expiration date, nominal width, and CE marking as a standard of European quality. They come in various materials, thicknesses, and shapes, and the choice depends on the needs of both partners, the type of intercourse, and the level of sensitivity desired during the act.

Why does it matter to choose the right condom model?

Choosing the right model makes the difference between a comfortable and an uncomfortable experience: size, thickness, and lubrication completely change the sensitivity for both partners and directly affect the safety of the act.

The best condoms are not the most expensive ones, but those that fit the anatomical shape of the wearer and the intended use. A model that is too tight risks breaking or constricting the base of the penis, reducing erection, while one that is too loose can slip during more intense movements. The choice also varies greatly depending on the context. For standard vaginal intercourse, almost any correctly sized model is fine. For anal penetration, a thicker condom and plenty of lubricant are needed. For oral sex condoms, there are flavored variants without spermicide designed specifically for that moment, with flavors ranging from mint to chocolate to tropical fruit.

Female condoms are also a valid option to consider when wanting to manage contraception independently: they are inserted into the vagina before intercourse and act as an internal barrier. The general rule is simple. It’s better to invest a few extra euros in the right model than to risk an interrupted intercourse, a breakage, or a contraceptive failure at the wrong moment. When it comes to health and intimacy, it’s not worth saving on what really matters, especially considering that the unit price of a good product remains among the most accessible compared to any other contraceptive method.

Different types of condoms

On MySecretCase, you can find all types divided by need: classic for everyday use, thin for those seeking maximum sensitivity, stimulating, delaying for those wanting to prolong intercourse, and XL versions for those needing an oversized size.

Classic Condoms

The standard model is the safest starting point for most people. Classic condoms have a medium thickness, regular anatomical shape, and pre-applied silicone-based lubrication. They are perfect if you have no special requirements, if it’s your first time wearing a condom, or if you want a reliable model to keep on hand. Available in both 12-piece and 100-piece convenience packs for regular users.

Thin Condoms

Designed for those who want to feel as much as possible during intercourse without sacrificing safety. Thin condoms have a thinner wall compared to the classic ones, in some cases down to 0.03 mm: the sensation felt is very close to direct contact, maintaining the same resistance thanks to the quality of the latex. Super thin condoms are the ideal choice for stable couples who want maximum sensitivity without compromising on protection. The additional fragility is minimal and compensated by the care in the production process.

Stimulating Condoms

They enhance her pleasure through the structure of the outer surface. Stimulating condoms have ridges, dots, or ribs distributed along the shaft, designed to intensify the stimulation of the vaginal walls during penetration. Condoms with transverse ridges offer a more pronounced sensation, while those with dots provide a more widespread and uniform effect. They are a smart choice when looking for something more than standard smooth intercourse, especially stimulating condoms that center pleasure and transform penetration into a richer sensory experience. Even stable couples can find them useful to spice up their intimate routine and try something different without changing habits.

Delaying Condoms

They contain a small amount of benzocaine, a mild anesthetic that slightly reduces the sensitivity of the glans, helping to prolong the duration of intercourse. Delaying condoms are designed for those suffering from premature ejaculation or simply wanting to extend the moment of orgasm. The effect is felt a couple of minutes after the start of intercourse and fades after ejaculation. Delaying prophylactics are one of the simplest and least invasive remedies to manage duration, without resorting to medications or complex control techniques. They should still be accompanied by good breathing rhythm and a relaxed posture to give their best effect.

XL and XXL Condoms

The oversized size is dedicated to those who need a larger circumference. XL condoms have a nominal width greater than 56 mm and a more spacious shape at the base, so they do not constrict and maintain the right comfort throughout intercourse. There are also XXL condoms with a nominal width of up to 60 mm. Using the wrong size is the primary reason a condom breaks or slips: if you have doubts about the right size, always start with the larger model and adjust accordingly. It is much more common to underestimate the correct size than to overestimate it.

How to use condoms?

The condom should be worn on the fully erect penis before any genital contact. Pinch the tip with two fingers to remove air from the reservoir, place it on the glans in the right direction, and unroll it down to the base with a single, decisive motion.

Wearing the condom correctly

The most important rule is to open the package with your fingers, never with your teeth or scissors, to avoid damaging the latex. Check that the rolled edge is facing outward. If you try to unroll it from the wrong side, discard it and use a new one because it may have come into contact with pre-ejaculatory fluid. After ejaculation, hold the base of the condom while withdrawing to prevent it from slipping and the contents from spilling out. Each condom is for single use, even if the intercourse is brief or if there was no complete penetration. Store it away from heat sources, from your wallet in your pocket, or from the car dashboard, where high temperatures accelerate the deterioration of the latex.

Lubrication and condom compatibility

Almost all models are already lubricated, but in many cases, an additional lubricant is needed, especially for longer intercourse or anal penetration. Use only a water-based intimate lubricant on latex models: oily lubricants like petroleum jelly, massage oils, or moisturizing creams damage the material and make it fragile in seconds. For anal penetration, a dedicated anal lubricant is needed, which is thicker and longer-lasting. On polyisoprene models, you can use silicone-based lubricants, while on polyurethane models, compatibility is maximum with any type of lubricant on the market.

How to choose the right condom size?

The size of the condom is measured by the nominal width, which is half the circumference of the penis shaft at rest, unrolled flat. It is a figure expressed in millimeters that you will always find printed on the package, and it determines comfort much more than length.

The nominal width of standard condoms starts from 49 mm for XS models and goes over 60 mm for larger versions. The most common sizes are concentrated between 53 and 55 mm, a range that corresponds to the so-called one-size-fits-all of classic models (nominal width 55 mm). To determine your size, measure the circumference of the erect penis at its thickest point and divide it by two: if you get a value around 55 mm, the classic is fine, above 56 mm you need an XL model, and below 50 mm the smallest version is the safest. Size L covers the range between 56 and 58 mm.

The wrong condom width is the primary cause of breakage or slipping, much more than the brand quality. If you are unsure, buying an assorted kit with different sizes is the quickest way to find the right one without having to purchase whole packages each time. The sizes of condoms are always based on the nominal width, the truly critical parameter printed on every package. It is the width, not the length, that determines comfort and safety. Once you find the right size, you can choose between the 12-piece pack for occasional use and the 100-piece convenience pack for those who buy regularly in a stable couple, significantly saving on the unit price of each individual piece.
